The Best Multi Purpose Cleaners To Simplify Your Routine
Using the best all-purpose cleaner really makes a difference, whether you bought it or made it yourself. Being able to clean multiple surfaces with one product makes cleaning simpler and more cost-effective, so I’ve tried out a lot of all-purpose cleaning products to try and find the best of the best.
I have my own favorites, but I was curious what other people were using, so I scoured the comments here on my blog, my Facebook page, and Amazon customer reviews to find out. The result of my research is the list of the best all-purpose cleaners that is the subject of this post.
This list includes plenty of store-bought multi-purpose cleaners for those who prefer them, as well as a couple of homemade options if you’d rather make them yourself. Either way, I think you’re sure to find your new favorite multi-surface cleaner somewhere in this list!
13 Of The Best All-Purpose Cleaners

1. Jillee’s Homemade All-Purpose Cleaner
If you’re looking for a natural cleaning solution or an inexpensive alternative to store-bought cleaners, my homemade all-purpose cleaning spray is a great option. There’s no shortage of ways you can use it, from wiping down surfaces to cleaning walls to shining appliances, and the essential oils in the spray leave behind a fresh, clean scent too.

2. Microfiber Cloths
Microfiber cloths are pretty powerful cleaners in their own right! To clean with a microfiber cloth, simply dampen it with water and use it to wipe down countertops, dust surfaces and knick-knacks, clean your walls, and so much more. The microfiber structure of these cloths locks in dust, dirt, and grime like nothing else does!

3. My Two-Ingredient ‘Miracle Cleaner’
Some homemade cleaners can do things that store-bought cleaners can’t, and that’ i’s definitely the case with this “miracle cleaner!” A simple mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide can help you erase even the most stubborn messes, like armpit stains on white shirts, baked-on residue on your baking sheets, and so much more!

4. Bar Keepers Friend
If you’ve never given Bar Keepers Friend a try, I highly encourage you to do so, because it’s pretty astonishing what this powdered cleaner is capable of. It’s truly a multi-surface cleaner, capable of cleaning up porcelain, stainless steel, copper, fiberglass, tile, and more!
The secret to its cleaning ability is oxalic acid, which breaks up rust, lime, and other stubborn stains at the molecular level. You’ll never know how many uses for Bar Keepers Friend there are until you try it for yourself! :-)

5. Powerizer
Powerizer detergent is a relatively new discovery of mine, and I couldn’t be happier that a product like this finally exists! Not only is it the world’s first two-in-one laundry AND dishwasher detergent, but you can also use it to clean tile, mirrors, stovetops, and more. The endless uses for Powerizer make it a great money-saving, multi-purpose cleaner!

6. Magic Eraser
Mr. Clean Magic Erasers are a perennial favorite of the entire OGT Team, as well as many of our readers! It’s shocking that a little melamine sponge could be such a powerful multi-surface cleaner! We use them to remove scuff marks from walls and floors, clean shoes and purses, dust baseboards, and so much more (and there are more Magic Eraser cleaning tips where those came from!)

7. Castile Soap
Castile soap is derived from vegetable oil, resulting in a concentrated soap that’s both gentle and biodegradable. But just because it’s gentle doesn’t mean it isn’t effective! Castile soap is gentle enough to use in homemade bath and body products or as a produce wash, but tough enough to clean your toilet bowl! I’ve written an entire post to give you over 20 uses for Castile soap!

8. Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is one of the least expensive cleaners you can buy, and it’s readily available at most supermarkets! This oxidizer can lift stains out of clothes, whiten teeth, and clean and brighten all kinds of stuff. In fact, there are over 30 uses for hydrogen peroxide that are definitely worth learning about!

9. Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner
This non-toxic and biodegradable cleaner has a dedicated following of fans who rave about how good it is at breaking down greasy and oily messes. You can also use it to clean fabric, carpet, tile, metal, stone, and more!

10. Method All-Purpose Naturally Derived Surface Cleaner
Most Method brand products, including their all-purpose surface cleaner, rely on cleaning agents that are naturally derived from plants like corn and coconut. These cleaners are available in 10 delightful scents, including pink grapefruit, ginger yuzu, and honeycrisp apple.

11. Windex Vinegar Multi-Surface Cleaner
You don’t have to go the homemade route to take advantage of the cleaning power of white vinegar. This Windex multi-surface cleaner features vinegar rather than ammonia, making it gentler than the standard Windex formula. It’s great for cleaning glass, appliances, stainless steel, plastic, and vinyl, and the vinegar will leave behind a brilliant shine too!

12. Mr. Clean Multi-Purpose Cleaner
For a versatile product with a fresh scent, look no further than Mr. Clean multi-purpose cleaner. Just dilute the liquid with water to make an effecting cleaning solution for household surfaces.
Many who use it as a mopping solution say it’s great at cutting through grease on hard floors. If you love the scent of Gain or homemade fabric softeners, you’ll love this cleaner.

13. Pledge Multisurface Cleaner
My daughter Britta turned me on to Pledge’s multi-surface cleaner after using it to do some spring cleaning in her living room. She said it was the perfect tool for the job because it picked up dust and dirt equally well. And like other Pledge cleaners, it helps keep surfaces dust-free longer than they would otherwise.

What’s your favorite all-purpose cleaner?
Castle soap won’t clog up your pipes if you clean with it to much? I’m asking because I want to make sure before I buy. I want to get that Bar keepers product too.

Had some solid break lining debris and dirt on my car’s wheel hubs. Tried everything. Sprayed this stuff, let sit a minute and the stuff just wiped off! Worked on soap scum and nicotine buildup on wood (Dad was a smoker). Best part….it’s only a buck!

Please log in or create a free account to comment.I’m confused. For the last 4 or 5 years I haven’t bought Windex or any glass cleaner; same with all purpose cleaners. I make my own using the recipes on your site…

Please log in or create a free account to comment.I agree. My mom has some Norwex cleaning cloths. A friend was selling them a few years ago and they are amazing. Just get them wet and they pick up lots of stuff. We use the Mr Clean sponge for the tub area in the bathroom. She also likes a brand called Totally Awesome. It comes in a spray bottle she gets it from the Dollar tree. Mom has been doing Church service stuff once a week. The people she works with swear by it for getting stains out of whites. Mom uses it for lots of cleaning tasks. If I could just get used to he smell of it.
Please log in or create a free account to comment.A cleaner I really like is Murphy’s Oil Soap. This one has been around forever. You can use it concentrated straight out of the bottle or with water. I actually use it to clean my leather saddle. I use it with a toothbrush to clean the intricate carving in the leather. It works great! It’s great for cleaning floors and other hard surfaces and has a nice smell.
Please log in or create a free account to comment.Jillee, I check you out everyday and have for several years. You are awesome and such great idea. I have to ask you if you’ve ever looked into Norvex Products. Their microfiber clothes are unbelievable and so healthy. You really need to check this company out and I’m not affiliated with them in any way. Just like using natural products.

Please log in or create a free account to comment.Thank you for your favorites post. I’d like to share 2 of my favorites with you. My go to around the house spray cleaners is JAWS (just add water system). The pod of solution goes in the top of the spray bottle filled with water. They are extremely economical and each one cleans wonderfully. The other is Milsek cleaners and polish. They clean and revive wood, stainless and leather. It’s important to use products that “get the job done”.

Please log in or create a free account to comment.I clean homes and vacation rentals in Western North Carolina. This area is also very environmentally conscious. Being around cleaning products on a daily basis and also a cancer survivor I started to look at the ingredients in my Cleaning products and tried to find a natural product that really worked. I bring my own products unless a client is product specific. Many of the products I use are on your list and work great! Although, a client introduced me to Warhorse Solutions Pure Gold and the product is concentrated (just add water) and I found it can clean everything from barn wall, cars and floors! The best part is, it is all natural but it really works! They focus on minimally processed, nutrient-rich ingrefients that are aggressive and kind.. Their products are pesticide-free, sulphate-free, phosphate-free, gluten-free and glyphosate-free they are plant ingredients and they do not use synthetic perfumes or petroleum. My hands feel good after using this and the product really works! I love this product and it has replaced many of go to products! Sometimes I feel as if I could clean an entire house with just this product. I am not affiliated with this company in any way! Just a great fan! They also carry a line for your pets and horses as well! And they have a guarantee they will return your money if it does not work!. Give it a try, it’s my new go to! Beth Heer, Lake Lure, NC
