I just love doing this kind of post! It is so fun to just get lost in the pursuit of simple handmade gifts. Just when I think I can’t possibly find anything new….I find dozens of ideas and then spend hours trying to decide which ones to use!
This happens to be my eighth installment of this post. I started with Parts One, Two, Three, and Four back in 2011 then added Parts Five, Six, and Seven in 2012. This is the first one I’ve been able to get to this year….so I packed it chock full of ideas!
I hope you enjoy….and more importantly are inspired in your handmade gift-giving this year. I know I’m going to try my hand at several on this list!

One of the gifts, that I’m just now using up, was from my 24 year old granddaughter. She knows that I love coffee, so she dipped plastic spoons in 3 types of melted chocolate, and coated them with peppermint or sprinkles, or drizzled with contrasting chocolate. Then she wrapped them each in pretty cellophane wrap. I stir my coffee (or cocoa!) and get an extra flavor treat!

He loves to decorate with pine boughs and pinecones and poinsettias–and I was strapped for cash that year–so I bought a bottle of glitter and found some pinecones outside my house and voila! I hand-painted glue onto each tip around the pinecone then dumped gold glitter on it and hung it with yarn around my room until it dried. Dusted it off once it dried to get rid of any loose glitter and then packed a set of 6 or 7 in a box for Christmas! They’re beautiful and practically free. He loved them and they sit out in a Longaberger basket every Christmas! :)

It’s made of wooden letters she painted and attached things like flowers, bumblebees, and butterflies. She said it’s because I’m always laughing, making people laugh, and putting everyone in a good mood. I thought that was so sweet! Some of the decorations have fallen off over the years due to moving a lot (my husband is in the Army), but I still have it!

Please log in or create a free account to comment. We had a “beautiful things corner” growing up and while I don’t have a corner the value of handmade gifts lives on in my family so I have received (and given) many. It’s hard to pick a favorite because some are (or were) so useful and some so meaningful. I guess I have to go with an ornament my son made for us one Christmas when he was maybe 5 or 6 for the time of year. I also have a couple very special Valentine gifts and card he made several years later. But the wealth of ideas you offer us Jillee is invaluable to me helping me continue that tradition. Thank you!

Although I give homemade gifts, and have since 4th grade (my mom won’t accept anything but homemade from me now) I rarely receive homemade gifts (though I tell everyone I like homemade gifts). One that comes to mind, and I use a lot, is a scarf my mom made out of minky – my first experience with that amazing fabric. I’m sure that particular minky was a pain to work with ( in fact she has made that comment since then when we were at a fabric store together) but that just makes it that much more meaningful.
