The 11 Most Effective Ways To Clean Your Home With Dish Soap

cleaning with dawn

If you’ve read a single one of my blog posts about cleaning, then odds are you already know how I feel about Dawn dish soap! I spread the good word of the iconic blue dish soap wherever I go, because in my experience, nothing else works quite as well!

I even wrote a whole eBook about Dawn called Dazzling Dish Soap, which is packed to the gills with brilliant ways to use it! So while today’s post is also about Dawn, I’m taking a slightly different approach.

Instead of focusing on individual ways to use it, I put together a list of my all-time favorite cleaning tips and methods from past posts that feature Dawn dish soap in some capacity. After organizing this list, even I was impressed by how often Dawn seems to come in handy, and I wrote all of those posts to begin with! ;-)

To learn more about any of the methods listed below, simply click the title to read the full post about it! Happy reading! :-)

1. DIY Cleaning Wipes

There are so many advantages to making your own cleaning wipes. The supplies are cheap, they’re easy to make, and they are infinitely reusable!

But the best thing about making you own cleaning wipes is that they work just as well as the store-bought ones! A bit of grease-cutting Dawn dish soap makes these cleaning wipes useful for cleaning a wide array of messes.

2. Ultimate Stain Remover Spray

Ever since I discovered the stain removing power of hydrogen peroxide and Dawn dish soap, I’ve rarely used anything else! In my experience, there are very few stains this duo can’t remove on the first try.

I used to apply them separately, but now I mix them up ahead of time in my Ultimate Stain Remover Spray. Stains begone!

3. Bathtub Cleaning Trick

Cleaning the bathtub with a sponge or scrub brush can be quite the workout! But with the help of a long-handled broom, you can scrub away all the grime from a comfortable standing position!

Just squirt some Dawn into the bottom of the tub, add a little water, and get scrubbing! Your tub will be gleaming in no time, and more importantly, you won’t be completely exhausted afterward.

4. Tub & Shower Cleaner

Don’t get me wrong—Dawn does a great job of cutting through soap scum and bathtub grime on its own. But when it comes to dissolving hard water stains and mineral deposits, nothing works quite as well as white vinegar!

That’s why I combined the two in my favorite Tub & Shower Cleaner. I would normally say it works just as well as the store-bought stuff, but honestly, I think this actually works better!

5. Liquid Laundry Detergent

Making your own laundry detergent can save you a lot of money over time. It also gives you full control over the ingredients you’re using to clean your family’s clothing!

My homemade Liquid Laundry Detergent calls for a small amount of Dawn dish soap. It’s just enough to help lift out grease and oil without making a frothy, bubbly mess of your washing machine.

6. Strip Oily Bed Sheets

Sweat and body oils can leave behind an oily residue on bed sheets over time. This stubborn residue tends to cling to the fabric even after a normal wash cycle.

But there’s a simple soaking treatment you can do to dissolve that residue, effectively “stripping” your sheets back to their cleanest state. And it should come as no surprise that Dawn dish soap plays an important role in this treatment!

7. Windshield Washer Fluid

I came up with a homemade windshield washer fluid a few years ago when I ran out of it one winter day. It was one of those days where the roads were covered in dirty, salty snow melt, making it extremely hazardous to drive without a way to clean your windshield!

My homemade washer fluid featuring Dawn did the trick. It’s a useful thing to know how to make in case you find yourself in a similar situation in the future!

8. Jewelry Cleaner

All you need is a couple of drops of Dawn and a bit of water to restore shine to your jewelry! It gently dissolves oily residues and grime to reveal the gleam of your favorite rings and earrings.

Plus, it can save you quite a bit of money on jewelry cleaning solutions and supplies!

9. Eyeglasses Cleaning Solution

Do you ever feel like the lenses in your glasses just won’t come completely clean, no matter how much you wipe them? You probably need a cleaning solution that will help cut through that stubborn layer of grime.

You can make your own eyeglasses cleaning solution with a bit of Dawn dish soap! It’s grease-cutting capabilities will make short work of grimy glasses, leaving them shiny and smudge-free!

10. Granite Cleaner

In order to keep your granite countertops looking shiny and gorgeous for years to come, you have to clean them correctly. And that means knowing what cleaners to avoid, since the wrong cleaner can permanently damage granite!

But the good news is that making your own safe and effective granite cleaner is quick and easy! A bit of dish soap helps this cleaner cut through messes while being gentle on the stone itself.

11. Makeup Brush Cleaner

It’s important to clean your makeup brushes on a regular basis. Clean brushes are more hygienic to use and they make makeup application and blending easier.

I rely on good ol’ Dawn to help me keep my brushes clean, and a silicone trivet acts like a scrubber to help work the soap deep into the bristles. Get the full story on my makeup brush cleaning method in this post!
